sausage fest!

well we went to the sausage fest to try and get in the Guinness book of records for the most sausages eaten !!!??

Yes ! they are mad here! So we joined them to eat 10k of sausages! well not just us but the whole town! We did not stay long as we were getting bitten by mozzies and it was hungry! :)

They had loads of things to do, a nice band, ice-cream van, bumper cars, car racing and lots of other things for little people!

We came back to two boxers that had been in the sand pit!

DIY Tim

the new wall frame is going up! Tim wanted everyone to know what he has done as he says he is very proud of it!

One picture shows the wall with the fridge and dishwasher against it and the door into the room.

The next show the destruction of the the built in wardrobe and wall and the last is the new ceiling beam going in now! Tim is very excited it all went to plan! But then we had the help of the guy at the timber store who even drew the plans for Tim!! and cut every bit of wood to size! :)

ok! Shawn asked for some pictures of where we are and the surrounding area.

So the first picture is down the street which is the long end of the street (which as the name implies it is very long!) which ends up close to CBD (central business district or town centre as we know it!).

The second is the short end of the street as we are near the top end! the t junction at the end goes down to the sea which is the next picture. Then you have a close up of the sea from the end of the road.

And finally Tims DIY of water butt overflow while the rains are opening down on us!

The grass is very green now as the rain has recovered it from the dried out straw it was!

Brrrrrr! only 18 degrees

Well its still raining and cloudy and cold, i am sure you all want to hear that! :)

I am freezing as my clothes have not turned up from the UK and all the ones i bought with me are summer ones!

So to be safe and not freeze to death last night i had a large brandy! ;)

The Dogs stayed in again last night as it was too cold for us and Copper was shivering, so in they came and caused chaos!

It was my turn to fall asleep on the sofa after a long hard day of shovelling buckets of water from the water butt into the pool as Tim has not managed to build the over flow into the butt so the corner of the house gets knee deep in water! Its amazing how much rain water you can collect in such a short time! Tim has bee up on the roof and cleared all the gutters so it is 100% more efficient now so more rain was coming into the butt!

We had to go to bunnings as Tim was getting withdrawal symptoms and he now has a list of more jobs to do! We bought roof vents to let the hot air out of the roof along with any moisture, so as long as Tim can do it ok, we will paint the roof after as we have decided not to get the roof done yet as we want to raise the house. WE have also bought a new clothes line as they have a whirly gig in the middle of the garden totally ruining the view! So we have bought one to hide around the back of the shed, so that will be the job of today as it looks like the Squash club are closed for the holidays! how inconvenient for all us fattys!

There are a number of lights to put up and sockets to sort out so a busy week ahead!

I have a lot of work to do for the course i am organising and some reference work too as well as some writing up of the last study we did, as i can now do it as Tim has his computer and i can get on mine!

Just like the UK

We saw this in the paper and thought that you lot would laugh as much as us! hope you can read it?
For those who cant : Santas golf trolley was nicked while he was giving out pressies by a drunk and the guy drove it into the golf lake! Santa had to walk home! : )

Well today is 22 degrees, cold wet and grey making us feel just like we are home during the summer! The Winds are up and there is hardly anyone around, no joggers, cyclists or anyone! Seems they are very shy of the rain here!

Breakfast was spent on the front verandah in Tims dressing gown which we thought would never get used as it is a heavy grey one (my dads old one i think!).

The dogs were let in at 7.45pm as they were pressing their noses to the back door looking very rejected so we gave in! Roxy knew something was up and went straight to her bed without a sound Cooper started jumping around and making loads of noise, eventually after some cuddles he settled down and left Roxy alone.

Tim wished we had left them out as Cooper managed to be really naughty and do numbers 2's (his first ever) in the house!

So tonight out and we will pull the nets so as not to see the big brown eyes staring in at us!

I managed to slip down the back stairs again and have hurt my left hand, cant straighten it out completely or make a fist but no bruising and nothing broken so looks like we are going to change the back steps completely as i am sure it will happen again even after putting expensive non slip grip stuff down!

'tis cold, only 18 degrees C in the bathroom!

boxing day 33 degrees and humid!

Well after the hectic day yesterday, i managed to fall asleep in front of the TV, it was worse here than in the UK!

I left Tim to it as he was on the PC messing around looking at bikes i think! ?

I was sound asleep and did not hear the dogs stir much to Tims annoyance as he had to get up and let them out for wee wees 3 times!

I woke at 6.45 am and got up as i have been sleeping in until 8am and then getting up with a headache for sleeping in too long!

Tim put some pictures of the pool up and we are going to take some pictures of the surrounding area so you can see where we are as google earth is not so great in Hervey bay.

I hope you all managed to eat loads and fall asleep on the sofa before the end of the really nice film you wanted to watch! :)

The dogs were leaping about like a pair of frogs so i went out in the garden with them and started watering the plants and tiding up the flower beds pulling out weeds, sorting out bits form the pool etc for an hour or so. Then i decided that i was hungry as we had only eaten once yesterday (even though it was tons!) so i sat down and had some yoghurt and fruit for brekkie. Tim woke up and surfaced looking like he had drunk all the xmas drink!

We spent the whole day sorting out the garden and the house, as i forgot to tell you all some of our chattels arrived from the UK on Thursday morning, there should have been 132 boxes but we only got 88. Which was really upsetting as most of the stuff we wanted was in the 40 boxes that were not here! We think they might still be in the UK!!

So since Thursday we have been unpacking boxes and checking every thing as you have only 7 days to report anything broken or missing! The quarantine guys went through everything opening boxes, but nothing seemed to be missing, but then again with 90 boxes how would you know until you think about using something and its not there!?

So we have my work books which is a relief, and Tims and a few other bits and pieces to make the house look more homely :)

We have been sorting out the rooms with great fervour and managed to open all but a few boxes on the Wednesday to check them all , only three things broken, but they were mine in the first two boxes i opened and i was getting upset at the way the guys had packed my books just squidging them in to any space creasing them up and bending them beyond straightening! So from joy to tears in one day.

We tried to find out what had happened to the last 40 boxes but as it was so close to Xmas no one was really interested!

Today we had very humid weather and we were both dripping just sorting out things, i was grumpy as i get too hot and cant cope as i just want to sleep or go in the pool! But finally after the obligatory shop at bunnings (Tim was having withdrawal symptoms) we got home with more work to do on the house! Then it poured with rain and the water butt Tim had put up was pouring water everywhere! So we were emptying it all over the place and still it was filling up! But messing about in the rain was quite refreshing (i am sure the neighbours think we are nuts!), so we have decided that we need a bigger butt (no jokes about how we could use mine!) so that is the next task to get one that holds at least 2000 gal of rain water!

It is still grey and has got dark quick today but it is quite a nice relief from the hot weather, everyone local is saying how this is the mildest weather they have had at Xmas for a long time!! (thank goodness is all i can say!)

The dogs are now living out side as we have decided that it is better for us, it is warm and they have places to go to keep cool! So the dogs will now be outdoor living!! Roxy is not quite sure what is going on and keeps looking longinly at the back door to come in. But they have their beds and it is quite safe out there away from anything nasty. Strange how it makes us feel terrible, but all the dogs out here live out side and most of the Ozzys think we are mad letting them inside!!?? We shall see if we can stick it out, as it feels all wrong! :(

But today they were both playing in the sand pit and got themselves filthy and covered in sand everywhere! all mixed nicely with slobber and goo! Then came into the house after i had cleaned it and shook it all off over everywhere! That, together with Tim getting up 3 times last night we thought that we would try it!

Gulp! i will have to put my hard face on :(

Some Piccys!

Christmas day nearly over for us!

Well we started Xmas day off with a bang!

The dogs woke us at 6am and Tim wanted to go back to sleep so we kept him awake!

We opened our Xmas stockings, had fun and lots of laughs then spoke to mum and dad, Luke and Jim and Shirley were there too! We then phoned Shirley and spoke to her too and told them all that we would talk later when it was Xmas in the UK!

Tim cooked brekkie and the dogs got fed between phone calls and emails. Then we opened pressies from mum and dad in the UK, chocolate, more chocolate and a few other nice bits for reading and car keys!

We spoke to Bob and Tracey and heard Kieron gurgling in the back ground he sounded so contented as did Tracey and Bob after all the hassle they had having a ickkle one of there own! Bless! it was nice to hear such happy voices :)

We then heard from Dave a friend Tim had met through IT stuff who invited us to the beach for an Xmas day swim. Then John Turned up as he had left his mobile in the car last night after our wild night out on the town!

We had gone to the boat club and had a really nice evening with a band playing and loads of people dancing like in the old days when i went out as a child with mum and dad! Tim was quite scared at all these old people dancing their shoes off! It was really nice evening even though we had organised to eat out! i am not sure what had happened in the translation but John and Dulcie had eaten! hay ho so we just had some sandwiches and wedges! It was nice evening but we were all yawning by 10.30pm!

I drove so i was on the ginger beer and Tim was on the Guinness it was nice as we heard more stories from John and Dulcie about there time in Saudi Arabia! it was very exciting!

Got home safely without being stopped by the police which are more prominent than the police in the UK.

Tim watched the blues brothers or back to the future or summat and i fell asleep!

25th December
Our first ever Ozzy Xmas!

After all those calls and present unwrapping we were in the pool for a swim, saved a bearded dragon from being eaten by the dogs!
We had text messages from Emma, Casey, Tim's cousin in Sydney and Dom Tim's mate from Hockey!

We got ourselves ready to go and meet Dave and Lane at the beach, and went down for a paddle and to say hello as we could not go for a swim as we did not have time!

It was beautiful the beach was idyllic and the surf was up and looking good!Lane turned up we wished them merry Xmas and headed off to our Xmas lunch at Robyn and Colin's!

Got home fed the monsters locked them in the garden to play! and off we went to Urraween for Xmas lunch!

Got there and Robyn's sister Bev and her husband Steve were there with Robyn's sons Daniel and and Tony and us!

It was so nice to have an ozzy Xmas and have the pee taken out of us Poms! I ate more than i wanted as Colin said it was a day bout excess! so i stuffed down oysters, champagne (well asti) king prawns, sand crabs salad and loads more so much so i was slipping it on to Daniels plate while he was not looking!

It was fantastic for me, Tim took his own lamb chops and Colin cooked them to perfection so Tim was happy too!

They had two dogs a rottie Rebble and a chwowa called something cute that i cant remember!

We drank loads as it was my turn to drink today!

I had some home made brandy that was quite nice ! and we staggered off home about 5 pm !

Got back and we were watering the garden when Carl, Nereda and Jaden turned up!

So more drinking, snacks and giving of pressies!

Tim got stressed out with Jaden running around with the dogs and doing things he should not have, but he realises he needs to lock up the good stuff and just let him run himself out! It sounds like he is adopted so it made us realise that they are more lenient with him then they should be.
He is a really nice boy just so full of beans!

Nick phoned while we had them around so we called him back! I am trying desperately to get him out here as there are no good restaurants or cafes here, and i miss him like mad!

So now writing the blog as you lot are about to start your Xmas day!

Love to you all and may you all be blessed with all that you wish for this Xmas as i have been more than surprised! i thought i would struggle and find it hard without our families here to see, but the Internet makes the world so small.

It has been a great day and i am really looking forward to talking to mum and dad, Luke, Jim and Shirley and Shirley, Tim's mum then Margaret and bed!

We will have spoken to more people now than ever so it is really nice.

Have had emails from loads of friends and Xmas cards from loads of mates in the UK

Its a Boy!

Well so excited after very sleepless night knowing that Tracey was in and in hours we had not heard anything! I kept getting up and looking at the phone to see if i had missed any text messages or calls!

Finally yesterday a text at 1.29 am UK time at 22.42 Kieron Richard Bain was born by von Douche method (suction cap on head) as they don't use forceps much now. Weighing in at 7lb 14oz! Mum and baby doing fine!

We were very relieved and very happy to become surrogate aunt and uncle!

Edit to original post!! The middle name is ROBERT Bob got it wrong at 1.29am in his text to me!! So i said i would make sure everyone knew!

Dec 18th Quack Quack Ooops!

Sat night continued............

Well the storm got worse and then there was a phone call from John, they had been in a disaster zone! Mrs Quackers had decided that she needed to take her brood of 6 ducklings across the road to get away from the stormy weather! Well chaos ensued Dulcie leaped out of the car to make sure that no one ran over the ducklings as they crossed the road. John had stopped all the traffic with his car, which was not very much around here! But as the ducklings were going across the mother decided to come back to check on them and was squished totally by a car coming the other direction. :(

Now John and Dulcie are a very compassionate pair and love every animal so much they will not eat any at all. Needless to say they were both devastated, and as John relayed the tale of picking the dead mother up and placing her on the side of the road we all had a lump in our throats :(

So off we drove to the Lennon's to see these poor orphaned ducklings and see what we could do to help with a camera in tow as John said we must as they were so cute.

After a while of driving in flooded roads and lots of squished frogs and toads all over the place even a roo! We arrived to hear the crying of the ducklings for their mum! Who was taken away in a second, which changed the out come of the whole of their lives!

They were so cute and so fluffy Tim even managed to not think about crispy duck for once!

We stayed a while and had a drink as it was needed by the rescuers and Tim as i was driving. It all settled down and an animal carer was coming around the next morning to collect them and take them back to her refuge to bring them up until they could fly.

The Lennon's might see the ducklings again as they live on a very large lake which would be ideal habitat for them, but not while they are growing up as they are open to a number of predators.

Got home and watched a bit of TV and early night, so much for the swinging Saturday.......perhaps its the age!!??

Sunday
We managed a bit of a lay in and then did a few bits on the garden, on the pc, Tim watched some cricket.

I managed to slip down the back stairs as they get very slippery when wet! i had an empty bottle of wine, peachie and tin of beer for recycling. Nice big bruises down my back and arms almost immediately! Both dogs just sat quietly watching me bounce down the stairs, i think Cooper thought opps! done that a few times, and Roxy just looked in amazement!

We went off to RSL for big cash draw night!!! We managed not to win one prize! But did manage a few drinks and Tim had a spicy pizza, i sat and watched him eat as it had beef all over it so i could not eat it. Needless to say i got a bit tiddley as i had had nothing to eat and a few glasses of wine. We ended up sharing our table with another local couple who looked like the crankeys! She was called Yvonne and he was John and they talked about buying houses and the local estate agents which they seemed to know quite well!

We then headed off to get the bus back and it was nice to be dropped off first so we tried to watch some TV as it was still early. Tims mum Shirley called to have a chat, just a quick one as i think she knew we were both a bit tiddley! Tim fell asleep in the chair and i went to bed to try and read and fell fast asleep!

Monday
lay in which was so nice as the dogs only got me up once during the night and Tim once!

We started the morning with Tim filling out applications for a couple of jobs while i sorted out the house.

Went shopping for a couple of bits, which was a trial as there are hundreds of people out spending like there is no tomorrow!

We managed to buy some lovely chocolate ice cream and get into the Toy shop to have a look around for some stuff Tim wanted!

Back at the house and we had a phone call!! yes! yes! yes! finally the shippers have given us a date for our stuff to be delivered to the house! this Wednesday! We then have 7 days to check all the boxes and all the items and report back to them anything that is broken or missing! We only have 134 boxes to check! So much for a quiet Christmas!

The wind had been up too much to get the kayak out..... so still waiting for that adventure!

Tracey has gone into hospital so we are expecting a call any time to let us know what flavour of child will adopt to old farts in Oz as surrogate aunt and uncle! Very excited!

later that day in December

Well i managed a sleep and woke up after a couple of hours hot and very sweaty! the temp had jumped, and both the dogs were sound-o too, we all woke together!

Tim had spent the afternoon watching cricket and on the PC ! so he was happy!

As i woke he told me John & Dulcie were coming around to see Cooper.

Tim went off to Flash Harry's to get some bits, carbuncles (yes i know it is caribiners but i like carbuncles betterhow often do you get to use the word!!) for my hammock so that we can take it down in the rain which is good because at the moment it is pouring down with rain, thunder and lightening!

We had a nice afternoon chatting with the Lennons after Tim and i had had a swim in the pool to cool off. Roxy had a moment with Cooper so we had to separate them, it feels like back to square one after they were getting on so well and Roxy was not jealous. They were playing and having tug of wars with their blankets. I think it must have been the fact people were over and it was very hot (which makes her grumpy). The Lennon's were really good and made a fuss over both the dogs so it was not that............... so we shall see we are talking about a citronella spray to stop bad behaviour, which the dog warden has to rent...... so we shall see Monday if she is not back to herself.

We were going out to night to the carol concert at the Oval grounds in Pialba but the storm has now washed that out as the Lennon's said there was a mass exodus from the grounds. So we are waiting at home to see if it stops as there was meant to be fireworks after, we are thinking of two options....... the carols in the mud swamp or the boat club for a drink............... sorry three options, or just stay in and watch back to the future number a billion and two! :) Will let you know tomorrow what happens!

Saturday night all dressed up and no where to go!

sleepless nights

Sat Dec 16th
Well after a bit of baby sitting for Jaden , it was a long night and quite tiring! I keep forgetting how exhausting children can be! He was constantly into everything at the tender age of 7!

The dogs were exhausted too and he just would not let them sleep, Roxy was the only one who managed to keep up with him and lively until the moment he left and then she just flaked out!

We have managed to do a number of little jobs around the house, lights, bulbs, seeding grass, finished of taking the wall out etc.

We have a number of paperwork items to sort out to get funding back from the government who are kind enough to give you your tax (tamp duty back) when you purchase your first house in Oz!

We have been looking and applying for jobs and will wait and see what comes up!

Sorry blog is not so exciting or bubbly today but the dogs managed to wake me 7 times last night getting up to sort them out and then i gave up at 4 am and decided i may as well get up. Tim managed to sleep right through only waking at 3am. But slept through until 6.30am.

So while i was up i managed some surfing on the net looking for businesses to buy!

John Lennon came around to play table tennis and have a swim in the pool, it was fun, think Tim enjoyed playing with someone competitive! I managed to put up some xmas decorations as Tim has relented this week as i am feeling far from home with family and friends not around us this xmas and very teary.

We now have an advent calender up where we stick in our own chocolates :) and 4 wooden tree decorations around the newly knocked down wall dinning room! And finally some coloured fairy lights out side wrapped around the palm tree, which are solar powered.

The office is looking more like and office and Tim has managed to get an advert in the paper for the IT work so hopefully something will come in after xmas as hopefully lots of people will get PC's 4 xmas!

Was too tired to go garage sales today but Tim wanted to go so relented and we went, Tim found a load of LP's he wanted and we then went and got some dog mince from the butcher which the dogs love!

Had breakkie cooked from me when we got back and now going for a sleep as i have been up over 6 hours now and feeling very woozy!

Strange the temperature going up the closer we get to Xmas! just seems so back to front!

For the first time ever i will have a hot birthday! so we can have fun out side!! :)

internet up and running!

Well blow me down but as soon as we got home the post person came with the adsl thingy and Tim got it all sorted out quite quick and we were up and running! Most of you know as i have emailed you to let you know. I am still on MSN and so we can all talk online if i can manage to stay up late!!

We are also on Skype but i am not sure what my name is apart from the obvious!! (we could not find me even though i am registered! but Tim has registered so you can contact through him if you look up Tim Trim and add us to your contacts.

We alsoo got an array of xmas cards from people and my magazine that Tracey managed to get to me even though she is full of baby in her tummy. So big thanks to Aunty Lorna for her xmas card and Avril for her xmas card and new home card! we have quite a few which is shocking as we did not expect any at all and now we have loads!

We have managed to play table tennis without falling out (mostly missing the ball and running to get it before Roxy and Cooper eat it!). We are waiting for John to come around and teach us how to play properly!

The pool has had to have more treatment (regular thing but we are not used to mixing all these chemicals) so in went all the stuff and managed to do it even though the sun was burning down on my back and all i wanted to do was jump in !

Another few days of running around trying to sort things out for the dogs this time, Cooper had to have his jabs and worming tablet (which was quite shocking, will let you know more later!). We then had to take Roxy today Wednesday 13th Dec as she has a lump in her ear (not sure if an insect or something bit her).

Cooper had his tablet and out came a huge mass of worms Yuk!! gag! vomit! he even got one stuck in his bottom and i tried to pull it out gentley but could not, Tim tried and eventually Cooper rubbed his bottom on ground and it came out! (hope none of you are eating while reading this!). So we decided that after he was licking us all over the face that we should treat ourselves as well so off to the late night chemist (as we could not wait.....just the sight of those worms).

As i walked up to chemist i say this guy looking as my chest and thought, your cheeky, then realised as i looked down Cooper had been playing in the garden and was wet from the hose and i had cuddled him in the car on the way to chemist and my left breast was wet, very wet, in fact it looked like it was leaking! So i had to explain to the chemist that i did not have a leaky breast and that i wanted some worming tablets for us !!! UMM! wondered why Tim wanted to stay in the car with the dog!

I am getting to drive the car more now as Tim wants to cuddle the dog wherever we go, as we are not too sure of Roxy yet alone with Cooper as she might eat him as a lunch snack!

They seem to be getting on really well and playing lots so it is quite a relief in a way.

Everything seems to be slowing down for Xmas apart from all the shopping! its mad even here people just seem to spend ! We are just buying hoses, lawn seed and post boxes!

Today all the sockets were sorted out by Colin the husband of Robyn who owns the gift shop called Tinkerbells in Torquay! She is so nice and very friendly thank goodness, we even phoned her about which vet to take the dogs to! So we are now well lit with bedside lights (if i can manage to stay awake!). Cooper & Roxy are waking us up at midnight, 2am, 4am and then up for breakkie at 6am! if its not them its the birds who sing outside our window to get their breakkie!

It will be nice to get all the jobs need to be done on the house out the way by the new year so we can concentrate on jobs and getting money in! Tim does not seem to know what he wants to do, changing weekly from postie to policeman to handyman to web designer........ the list goes on and on! He has had one tab for his phone number pulled from the 2 posters he put out! not very exciting in the promising work list!

At least i know i will have a course running in the new year in the UK and will get money in that way (which will probably earn me more than i would earn in Oz in 6 months, no wonder all the Ozzies come to the UK for work!).

We have sorted out the final bedroom with a sofa bed ready to use !

There have been a number of little things we have bought for the outside dunny which looks more and more homely than the rest of the house as we have very little of our personal stuff yet! the shippers are very slow here and they have not given us a date for delivery so it looks like we might not get our stuff until next year!! that means they would have had it since 14th Nov !! Talk about go slow out here, they are not the fastest workers! much to our surprise!

As we only have my laptop Tim is now hovering to do some blog or just look at ebay he has done well without internet but is now showing huge signs of withdrawal so i will have limited time on line until his pc comes and then we will both be on line writing blogs and sending applications for jobs!

ok feeling sleepy now so will sign off and let Tim write a bit, i will try and read one more page of the book that i have been reading forever!

Well weekend shot by in the blink of an eye! It managed to rain over the weekend on and off, but not as hard as it has done, it was quite a relief as it was getting very humid! Sat we went to lots of garage sales! Got some loungers for around the pool from a place in Craignish and on the way back passed a sign saying boxer pups for sale! J So I stopped and called them so that we could go and see them, there was only one left and it was a tan coloured boy! So off we went to see him, which was bad news for us as Tim and I are both softies and this would be tough!

Went to house and saw mum who was lovely friendly and very gentle with us and the two pups, the other was a little girl which they were keeping (probably to breed from). We had a play, a chat and said we would go away and have a chat about him and then get back to them.

We were both very quite on the way back to HB to pick up purchases from other garage sales we had been to, where we had bought a table tennis table, sofa bed and a filing cabinet. We have nearly all the house kitted out now for people to come and stay, so pack your bags folks and get ready to come see us!

After a brief chat about cost of dog, there was more silence from both of us. We finished collecting all the purchases and sat at home having a drink, when Tim said I thought you would have phoned up by now to have him! So we chatted and decided to see if we could get him cheaper, so after a feew phone calls and some bartering he was ours!? God what had we done! Sleepless nights and furniture being chewed!! All to come!

Spoke to Bob and Tracey today, she is going in on Thursday this week to be induced! Hurrah! I am very excited about it, Tracey is worried, but she is strong and very brave after loosing her mum and having trouble getting this baby, she should be very proud of herself, I know we are very proud of her and I wish I could be there to see the babs be born! L With a bit of luck I will see it in the New Year hopefully Feb.

Gotta end now as I need to get to library to get this up on internet! as we still have not got ours sorted!

Well the car never made it back to us on Monday so we spent the whole day in the house doing work. Tim was having a go at taking the wardrobe down and taking the wall down at the same time! I spent the day digging up plants and transplanting them to another bed I had made as the place where they are is now going to be an out door dining area!
I managed to break the garden fork (just like I did to mums before we left the UK) then I managed to find a snake wrapped around the roots of a yukka plant in the garden! Margaret told me to watch out for yukka’s (but I think that was more tarantulas). I tried to ID the snake; it was only tiny about 12-18 inches long, brown, shiny, with a head that was a black triangle surrounded by a thick white band. It had its tongue out and was staring straight at me. I got the camera too late, and only got the usual bottom shot! Not really mush to ID from that!
Then as I was transplanting the yukka there was a huge spider on it, so I took a picture of it, big brown, with a silver pattern on the abdomen, I will look it up at the library tomorrow!! Strangely after that I decided to give up and just come in doors and cook!
The kitchen looks so much lighter now the wall is almost down and it will look great once we have finished it and we have a kitchen dinning room, not that it will get used much as it will be better temperatures outside.
The phone was finally sorted and we can now dial more than just local numbers! So today (Tuesday) I sent the number to most of you. If you did not get it and want it, you can get us on 00 61 07 4124 8320 what a lot of numbers!
Well we are getting shite about the cricket so someone please have a word and get it sorted so that they can stop taking the pee out of us!
The guy came around today to give a quote for the drive, he was in shock as it is the longest he has seen, all he kept saying to Tim was as there was so much he would do a special price!!! Ummm! Does that mean it will be double?
After a call to the car menders they said to come and get the car, Tim went off and got it while I carried on digging and transplanting. As there were some guys coming around to quote for the fence, they came after Tim had got back; to be honest I have not even looked at the car to see what sort of job they have done! It must be ok otherwise Tim would have said something! The quote was going to be phoned to me later, so off we went to the library and to sort out lots of stuff that we needed to do. Tim forgot some internet banking stuff so he took me to library and I got on with things while he went back for it. I was searching the internet for addresses I did not have all the post codes for. I still need some addresses as I could not find them on the internet and need to get the xmas cards off!
Got xmas pressies from mum and dad today, very exciting to get a parcel in the post and for me to open it as Tim runs to the post box every day and I have not managed to beat him!
We got a call from the Boblet today once he had got into work, as he got our number he thought he would try it! It was fantastic to hear a voice from across the big blue! Tracey has not had the baby yet and we are getting impatient, but not too as we want the internet to be up and running before she has it so we can get live coverage!! Well maybe not !! but some good cam shots or pics would be great! None of squidgy bits as Tim might faint! Very excited now and cant wait to see the baby Bain!
Phoned home and talked to mum, she was a bit upset as dad had not been well after his swim session and an ambulance had to be called! The episode managed to pass without dad hurting himself which was a blessing but now has to relax and get himself stronger so he can come and visit us and relax here! Dad sounded ok when I talked to him, he was waiting for mum to cook breakfast, not sure what it was but at least I know it would not be curry so he could not tease me!
Tim cooked on the BBQ tonight and managed to not over cook his steak, but needs a lot more practice J so more BBQs before xmas and his big cook out on the Barbie! Well probably salmon for me and steak for him!
Emma is going to visit on Boxing Day and stay until just before New Year which will be nice, to have a friendly face and talk about things, family and friends back in the UK.
We have not managed to sort anything out yet but a trip out in the kayak will be coming up as soon as Tim gets his foot sorted! Really looking forward to it!
The weather is really windy at the moment and quite a bit of heavy rain, as it was reported Sunday gone, there was 38mm of rain per hr! But as it is cyclone season a bit of rain and wind is better than loosing the roof on the house, mind you it does need replacing! J
The pool was full of crap that had been blown in so not much swimming over the last few days as it is not very nice, so might think about a pool cover as the barracuda cant keep up with sucking up the crap! But at least the pool is nicely full again!
Had a call from Zoe today and it looks like I am going to get the ok on my MMO course so I was very excited and very happy that I can get back to the UK and do some teaching as well as make some money! Having government approval will be the rubber stamp I need! I have to so much but I am very excited about it!
Bob said he might phone later when he gets home so that we can talk to Tracey, so we are expecting a 3am call, but it will be nice to talk to mates! Off to get some sleep before the 3am call, Tim is already in bed, as he can’t last much longer than 9.30pm these days!! So much for young and full of stamina!
Friday 8th December
Well yesterday we did shed loads of sorting out; the fencing is now being put up along the side of the house which will give us a lot more garden and privacy while swimming now that the garage has gone!
Spoke to Tim’s mum yesterday, its so strange that they only feel a short distance as there is no time lag!
We also purchased a petrol lawn mower, which was very exciting (not!) even Tim could not get excited, but did manage to cut the lawn when we got back (well more like trimming the heads off the dandelions! So we can now make the garden look really nice, the good thing about it is that will all this dry weather the grass does not grow much.
Made banana fritters this morning as the bananas we bought a couple of days ago are already too soft to eat!
We had just finished and had had fed the birds, and the phone rang! It was Tracey and Bob! J it was great to hear their voices, strangely I didn’t recognise Tracey immediately, the accent should have given it away! Well it was great talking to them, but it just brings it home how much I miss them both, its hard to loose good friends, we did so much together L They will have to come and live out here!
Our mission…………………………. To get all our family and friends out here (well at least for a visit to begin with!)
Shed a few tears this morning just missing everyone back in the UK……….. this Christmas will be hard L I hope we have the internet set up by then so we can chat to and see family and friends.
At least Emma will be here on the 26th which will take my mind off everyone back in the UK, unless she gets home sick too!?
But at least now with the course being registered I will be back early next year to get one running which I can focus on and know that I will see everyone again! Oh! And make some money!

Well its Sunday and another week has passed! It has flown by with another week of tradesmen and quotes and work!

Monday the internet man was meant to be coming around again to sort out the internet, he should have phoned Sunday night to confirm when he would be with us but did not L

So Monday did not start too well as we thought we would be connected up to the internet and be able to chat to family and friends with out having to go to the library and sign up for a session. The day passed and Tim got more and more rattled until we eventually went to sirrus shop to find out what was happening, they sorted and said the boss would phone with it all sorted for us. So we left knowing that the owner of the store was good to his word!

Well perhaps not on his day off! It dragged on and Tim said he would go in to see them tomorrow.

We ended up in library to see if there were any emails about jobs, Tim went on to sirrus web site to get phone number and he went and rang them to try and sort it out. The only reason we are persisting with it is that they are the cheapest and give a great rate for phone calls to the UK!

Lots of tree trimming and hedge cutting as the lumberjacks are coming on Wednesday to cut down seven trees !! Put in loads of plants and sorted out lots of little things in the house. The demolition guys are coming Tuesday to knock down the old asbestos garage which was almost falling down anyway! Strangelty the guy who sold us the house told us it would only cost $300 to get it taken down! Needless to say it cost 5 times as much!

Had a phone call at 7.30am to say they would not be there until dinner because of another job for a load of bikers in a commune out at the airport, he said they were big fat hairy bikers with tattoos so he just did the job! One poor guy cycled to our house ready for demolition, as I was planting and watering the garden I was able to tell him that the others were not coming until dinner (or lunch as we know it!) So poor guy had to cycle back home, know wonder he was so skinny! Later the boss turned up to tell the worker they would not be starting until later, as the guy did not have a mobile! Started to worry that they were a bunch of cowboys! But turned up at dinner and got such a shift on it was incredible to see, they worked so hard and the foreman was a guy from Pompy! But had been here 15 years and loved it said he would never go back home!

All the roofing was off and then they went to twon on the asbestos, taking it all off they were only being good and wetting it down when I went to look otherwise they weren’t bothering, but they did have on masks and suits to protect them, apart from the guy knocking all the panels out who was only wearing shorts and tee shirt!

By 5pm there was only a shell and the garden looked huge! It was amazing how much space there was once you could see through the walls. We surveyed the garden and turned the pumps on in the pool to make sure all the muck was taken out.

Wednesday and the boys were back and in full pelt as they tore down the timber frame of the garage, wish I had taken pics but completely forgot as I went to pharmacy to get some drugs as I was suffering with sweaty places sores!! (blush!!) Look I have never sweated from those places and my body was in shock! Can you melt fat that way!!?? Ummm! Now there’s a thought! Shame I have to drink so much to stop myself from fainting! J

Tim was on a mission with the internet people and managed to give Sirrus an ear full telling them how unprofessional they were etc etc etc……………. So 10 minutes later the guy phones back who was erecting the aerial and says he is coming around to try again as he had the right equipment and he could do it now. Well he had no idea how to do it, how the box was mounted or how it worked to be frank! Then the power supply was not working so he gave up and went home saying that as soon as he got the right power supply he would be back to sort it ! I don’t hold out much hope to be on the internet in the next few weeks or even before xmas …………….. we shall see! I always thought that ozzy workmen were 100x more reliable than the Brits but not so in this case! He said it all when he said that he was only paid by piece work not how long it takes to install! So that is why he could not be bothered as he could install more simple systems in the time it took to install this one!

The garage was down and they had levelled it off with a digging machine, it looked great and the garden huge! Well impressed with these guys even though it did cost 5x as much as we thought! Got a call from the lumberjacks they were free at lunch so they would be around in the afternoon to start on the trees !!! Blimey so different from the internet man!

We got back from shops and they had nearly taken down all the trees apart from the huge one in the front garden! I was in shock! The house looked so different and there was so much more light in the house it was nice, not sure if the neighbours liked it as the old man next door was just standing out side watching them, I am sure he was watching to see if they would cut down his mango tree! (No way, we are going midnight scrumping when they are big enough!)

Well no sign of the internet yet, the garden looks huge and we still need to get some fence put up now that the garage has gone, we also need to sort out a drive way as it is all dirt.

Hitting the high life! We went out for dinner at the RSL which was a bit of a let down there are only a couple of things I can eat on the menu in the main restaurant so if find it hard. It was nice to go out and not have to drive as the bus picked us up from the house and dropped us back again. We took advantage of the bus and bought some beer, brandy and a local type of baileys, ready for xmas visitors, if any of you make it out here!!
It looks like xmas will be 45 degrees and most of it spent in the pool! With salad if I can be asked and meat cooked on the BBQ as I am not going anywhere near heat!
Did some more garage sales and bought a swing double chair only after me sulking that I wanted one as Tim would not let me have it L Well I had to leave behind my old one in my house as Tim did not want it in his. We bought some mozzie nets which do not fit as I did not realise that they come in single bed and double bed size, so I will have to keep being bitten until we sort something out, I look like I have the plague on my legs L Not sure why its just me and they leave Tim alone!

Exciting day today as we bought a wormery (something I have always wanted, sad isn’t it, but so exciting to give my veggie waste to worms and get out liquid fertilizer J for free! (well not quite coz we had to buy the wormery and the worms!) Tim got a rain butt and was well into sorting out using all the new tools he had collected over the last few weeks, strangely every time we went to do a job there was something else he needed, strange world that men live in! Every time we went to Bunnings (B&Q equivalent) his eyes lit up and he would be drawn to the tools and get excited about drill bits and cutting things, along with plastic things……………… very strange world!

I went out on my own this week! Woo hoo! And played squash with Nerida from the cabins, we had a great game and it was nice to get out and do something different apart from the house!

Me I just bought a sun hat at Koala market today as it has now reached 34.8 and that was at 7am ish! And my head was burning!

Tried to do things in house today, not a good day for me, stripped all the silicone out of shower and kitchen as it was mouldy, they always say mould free silicon but it never seems to be! Then after picking out all old pubic hairs yuk! Gag! (I always get the shitty jobs!) I cleaned it all up and tried to silicon it all again! The shower went well apart from the mozzie who kept following me around so I lit some citronella candles and that got rid of him! Then I went on to the kitchen and the sealant was drying before I could smooth it out L kept going lumpy so I got fed up and just striped it all out again and left it to do tomorrow!

Gave up and tried to get on with the removal of a built in wardrobe in a room that we are going to turn into the dinning room, Tim had already started so I thought I would just get on with it! It was not easy as there were a million nails holding everything in, in such an order it was hard to get the wood out and keep it in good condition.

Tim came in to supervise and tell me what bits I should pull out next with the crow bar! After a lot of pulling and bits coming out I went into the kitchen for some water and realised that the flimsy plaster board between the kitchen and room where I was taking out the cupboard was all cracked and split! L. So not a good day, but we knew it was going to be difficult as there was only the plasterboard at the back of the wardrobe! The last guy called himself a handyman!!! Bodge job man I think more like!

So now we have to leave it as we are not sure that one of the wooden beams is not supporting the wall!! ?? So it will be a call around to Carl for some advice and help tomorrow! No more garden, it will be concentrate on house now, as we want to get as much done before we get jobs so we can just relax when we get back from work!

Watered all the plants in the garden which takes forever and then swim in the pool which has heated up really nicely today and then beer/rum and coke o’clock!

Just to let dad know, we have in the garden………… (Wanting to make him jealous as he keeps on about curry we cant get, and make him want to come visit!)

The dog and I are sort of in sync as we both run for the same bit of shade and when I go in the pool she runs in with me waiting for the lightest of splash to fall on her to keep her cool, and if you don’t splash she will bark at you until you get her wet!

Feels like forever!

Sunday 5^th November 8 days left

Up early to head to Nikenbah markets, took dog with us as you’re not meant to leave them in the cabins unattended! So I drove! J Tim’s letting me drive now! The air con has packed up (well freezes up if we keep it on! What is the good of having air con if you cant use it the whole time you’re in the car) so windows went down and a nice breezy ride to the market which is not far.

When we got there it was heaving at 7am ish! The market was full of plants, fruit, veg and loads of household stuff! The dog was very good as she was crowded in with people and quite a few dogs! But then being hot makes us all a bit soporific! And sometimes grumpy when its too hot and we have forgotten the water again (which we are trying to get better at remembering) but you don’t really need much in the UK just beer!

Tried to sort out more stuff for the house, bought some kitchen stools and found a sofa we like, but not sure so will think about the sofa.

Got back and had a swim to cool off, Tim started messing around with bike and strimmer so I went out in the car on my own! In search of the squash club, sadly I could not find L so had a nice drive around and back to the cabin.

Tim decided that he would come with me and see if we could find squash club, I am glad it took a lot of finding otherwise I would have felt silly! The road maps here show roads joining up but often they don’t and there are so many new roads being put in that it gets very confusing as they are not on your map!

We are having the most beautiful sunsets at the moment it will be a shame when we move to house as we will have to walk at least 8 mins to see it!

Found all the paperwork for a workshop on sonar acoustics that Doug Cato is giving which I was invited to when I saw him for work, so thinking of going if I can get flight and booked in

Monday 6^th November 7days left

Up early to sort out all the stuff to go to Canberra!

Sorted out loads of stuff for house, picked up stools, dropped Tim off to have his feet done and then went to internet to look for flights and hotel etc.

Found good prices but did not book as I thought would go to travel agent to see what they could do. Stopped for petrol and then back to pick up Tim. He come out all bandaged up and his foot looking rather sorry for itself (if feet can look sorry for themselves?).

Went to travel agent on way back and booked flight to Canberra and bus to Brissy airport. All I had to do now was find hotel! To phone box with a pocket full of coins, tried the hotel they had given me and they were fully booked apart from a suit! Phoned at least 7 hotels and all fully booked, so back to first hotel and booked suit! Lets hope I get some work out of this!

Back to cabin and sorting out suit case for early morning start! I think Tim would have liked to come but we had no one to look after dog. L

Tuesday 7^th November 6 days left

Up at 6am to get bus out of HB to Brissy and plane to Canberra!

Excited, nervous and worried!

Bus journey was rickety and no air con with only 22 seats and no toilet!

We stopped somewhere in between for a loo stop and food, it was not like the service stations on the motorways in the UK!

There were a number of outlets and some with really healthy food, the view was on to a lake with black swans and loads of water birds it was a peaceful respite from the rickety journey.

Arrived at Brissy domestic and did a self service check in and did not send my bag which was great!

Long wait for flight, filled with coffee, reading and loo stops.

Finally on plane, and off to Canberra, 1hr and 20mins later we landed and I hit the ground running, into taxi and arrived at ADFA. I was guided to conference room and got there just in time for pre conference first talk by Doug Cato.

Spoke to Tim and confirmed I had arrived safe.

Finished, I met up with Dave Paton and he took me back to his house to see family and dinner, sue his wife was not well so went out to dinner to leave her in peace. It was Melbourne cup day and people had been drinking since early hours.

We had a nice meal and then it was rounded off watching a group of youngsters beating the shite out of each other! It tumbled out into the road and across to us! One guy hit the glass door and left blood dripping down it! Needless to say I did not finish my meal. The riot police arrived when it was all finished! A peaceful walk back to car and dropped off to bed.

Wednesday 8^th November 5 days to go

Met up with Michelle for brekkie and then headed to conference, it was great to see a bit of Canberra on the way to the Defence academy, it was a lot quieter than Sydney and hardly any cars!

The day went quick and met up with loads of people, made good contacts and hopeful to get some work with someone!?

The drinks after the conference workshop I was meant to meet up with someone to try and get some work L they did not turn up…………… too busy with other work!

We all went out to dinner to Italian next to hotel and had a nice time.

After a few glasses of wine I did sleep !

Thursday 9^th November 4 days until loads of painting and decorating

Early rise again as all talks start at 8.30am felt a bit stuffed in the nose, feels like a cold coming on L

Talks were good and more talking to contacts and making of a few friends!

Finished and back to room with a friend in tow as the room they were in, in the backpackers was horrible and we were both catching the same flight to brissy! So we will share a cab in the morning, and it means I won’t sleep in as the flight leaves at 6.25am!!

We are (those who are left) out for dinner tonight which will be good as the hard networkers have left which gives us all a chance to chat to those people who are left!

Feeling tired already, hope I can stay awake for dinner, looking forward to getting back to Hervey Bay as it is cold here, 21 degrees and I did not bring any jackets or cardies!

We all went out to the local town centre where I had been the first night and went into a really lovely restaurant on the corner of the street which was very well occupied and had a really nice menu. After a very strange dinner with the gang due to Adrian making very strange statements which threw everyone. Back to bed and pack for morning.

Friday 10^th November 3 days until more packing!

Up with an early wake up call and taxi arrived on time! Off to airport at 5.30am! Will be glad to get back to Hervey Bay as Tim says its hot, even though they had had thunder and lightening storms. Apparently Roxy was really scared as the thunder and lightening was loud!

Dived in for a strong coffee at the Airport with Craig and then on to flight and up and away to Brissy had a great chat with Craig and looks like I might get some work from his dad if possible!!?? I need some work as I am going stir crazy doing nothing! Not good at this sitting around lark! Flight went really quick and just hoping bus will be on time! Said goodbyes as Craig was flying on to Townsville which was 32 degrees!! I had to wait for bus 4 hours of sitting around at airport bored out of my head, and very sleepy!

Got on bus and met up with two people at the back Carol and Greg, Carol a sassy dark haired Ozzy from Gin Gin who was on an internet dating frenzy to find a man to give her luxury and keep her and Greg from Gimpie, who was rather large (in fact very large!) hairy, full long beard, tattooed and wearing a singlet and shorts, who was on hit way to Thailand to see his bird who had just had an abortion and who was asking for more money to sort out complications!!?? It was the shortest 4 and ½ hour ride back I think I will ever have! Greg was trying his hardest to chat up Carol but she just showed me a stream of pics of all these internet dating guys!

When Greg got off the last hour and a ½ seemed to go slow as Carol spent it deliberating over which guy she wanted to be with, they all had something nice about them but not one had it all!! Lucky her to have so many to choose from!

Got off and Tim was waiting, said goodbye to Carol exchanging numbers and she gave me the dating site to give to Tims mum so she can have a try !!!! J

Back to Cabin and feeling shattered collapsed in a heap getting pizza in and early night.

Sat & Sunday 11^th 12^th To much to think about!

Up early to go to more garage sales! Tim is obsessed and would not stop, it was really very hot and all I wanted was a swim in the pool. But Tim can’t get in as he must keep his foot dry!

We managed to get a bed for us which Tim was going to pick up on Monday once we were in the house.

Sorted out delivery of garden furniture and veranda furniture! More stuff to build.

So Monday we have got the TV, washing machine, hypoallergenic vacuum cleaner, the sofa and chairs, and the entire garden stuff arriving! It’s going to be very busy day!

We packed a few things up ready for the morning, and went to bed excited!

Monday 13^th November

Moving in day!

We had breakfast and packed all our stuff up, got it all ready to go. Then we went to library as we were waiting until 11.30 am until we got the keys. So we did not want to just sit around and wait. We then went for milk shake near solicitors to sort out keys and stuff. Popped in to find out what was going on and were told money had not come through yet, then she checked and it had just arrived, so she promised that we would have the keys by midday! Bit tight as we have all the deliveries coming after noon! Gulp! Bit tight! As normal not smooth and solicitor had not sorted, we were waiting at estate agents for keys. Eventually got it all sorted after Tim had had a hissy fit which I was on phone to solicitors. As I was finishing the call the estate agent came out to get me as it had all gone through and we could have the keys!

Back to cabin to ship dog first and a number of other stuff including me, as I would have to wait for all the deliveries as it was after 12. Tim loaded up all the stuff from the cabin and he was getting it too us, as the new place was only 5 mins away!

Found out all the nastys as normal in new house, shower had cracked tray, cooker was filthy and grill was still caked in grease and dried on meaty bits! Yuk! He had even taken the extension lead to work the filter for the swimming pool! And the cupboards were full of cockroach poo!! Ewwww!

What is it about moving, the guys want to unpack and build all the new stuff and the girls end up doing all the cleaning!! L After living on my own for more years than I like to remember it is hard, as I have been so used to sorting out all the stuff myself and have found it hard to not want to build stuff and do the nice bits apart from all the cleaning!

For years you want someone to do all those jobs around the house and then when it comes you find out you are so independent. Its strange as I now know how frustrated dad feels that he cant do all the jobs he wants to do, and how mum feels doing all the jobs she is not used to doing which I have done for years not having a man around. Strange balance!? Perhaps best to go away and get someone else to do it all and just move in to a new sorted house!

After a long hard day finally passed out exhausted with back aches!

The Rest of Week! Until Friday 17^th November

The week has been an array of tradesmen, quotes, building furniture, staining decking and furniture. Cleaning, unpacking boxes, bags, and more and more stuff!

Tiring week as the dog has been a bit stressed out and waking at 5am most mornings for a wee as she is drinking so much water with the heat!

We have done gardening, sorted out the pool and have cut back a house load of shrubs, trees and other stuff! There is now a zen garden in the front with water feature and coloured stones. The internet people were trying to sort out internet for us but did not manage today L not sure if they can. I was hoping that we could up load the long long blog and then collect emails and chat to friends and family ……….. but not yet! They are coming back Monday so we shall see if we can get it sorted.

We have used the cooker, the new BBQ, and the pool J Tim has his own bath room which he is excited about and we have used the new washing machine that does not pummel your clothes into a munched up heap!

Last night it was so cold that we had to shut all the windows and the front door and went to bed fully dressed! And Still woke cold, even the dog was trying to get warm, so we had to get her, her blanket from the car! Strangely we did not have one so while she was warm we were not!

So Today (Friday) Tim went shopping for doona cover, to keep us warm!

At 7.30am we got up and there was a knock on the door from a guy quoting for rubbish removal! Went out into garden and realised it was warmer outside than in, the house does the job of keeping cool in the hot weather but it takes longer to warm up! So we sat out by the pool to have a warm up and some orange juice!

Tim cooked scrambled eggs for breakfast!

Tim went on an array of shopping to his favourite store, Bunnings (B&Q equivalent!) to get some more stuff for the zen garden. He then picked up our dinning table and chairs and then came back to help me finish digging out loads of soil in front garden. While he was out I sorted out all our clothes in to cupboards, washed up breakfast things, painted the head board for the spare bedroom, rubbed down garden furniture and moved it all to front porch, finished the chemical additions to the pool, and fed the dog.

We swapped roles which I quite enjoyed, and Tim hated! As shopping is not one of his favourites!

My week has not been so good have been bitten to death by mozzies, bitten by sand flies, bitten by horse fly and today bitten by a spider which was less then the size of my little fingernail, and as I am still ok it must not have been one of the deadly ones!

It seems very strange that in this fantastic hot weather people are shopping for Xmas pressies and father Xmas is coming to the shops this weekend! Not sure what we will do this year, as Tim still hates Xmas (as he always does) and does not want to celebrate which makes it hard for me as I love it and get excited about it all (it feels horrible when you wake up alone which I have done for years, only the joys of Luke coming into my room to see what Santa has bought brings pleasure, even when you are in the company of loads of family its hard not to feel alone when they all have partners)

While I am typing this he is fast asleep in the recliner chair! Bless! And he wants to go to more garage sales in the morning!
